First: separate RAW photo files from raw video footage
- Camera RAW photographs are sensor-origin image files intended for post-production rather than normal gallery viewing.
- Edited photographs are the selected, processed images normally intended for viewing, sharing and printing.
- Raw wedding video footage is the unedited motion material captured across the event.
- Raw vertical clips are social-first phone or camera clips that may be delivered without a finished reel edit when agreed.
Why every captured file is not automatically a final deliverable
An event produces repeated takes, test frames, missed focus, exposure changes, camera movement and many clips that exist only to build a final edit. A finished delivery normally involves selection as well as editing. That is why “all files” should be defined carefully rather than assumed.
When raw footage can be useful
- You want an archive of longer event moments in addition to the finished film.
- You plan to make future personal edits from agreed video material.
- Your social team wants selected original vertical clips for later posting.
- The raw-footage option is important enough that storage, transfer and delivery should be planned in advance.
Questions to put in the quote
- Are original camera RAW photo files included, optional or not delivered?
- Are selected unedited photos available, and in what format?
- Is raw video footage included, and does that mean all usable footage or a selected set?
- Are vertical social clips included separately from edited reels?
- How will large files be transferred and for how long will the delivery link remain available?
- Are storage media, courier or very large transfer requirements extra?
- What edited deliverables are included alongside any raw files?
Edited files and raw files solve different needs
If your priority is a polished wedding gallery or film, edited deliverables should remain the centre of the scope. If archiving or future re-editing matters, add the appropriate raw-file option explicitly. You do not need to choose one philosophy for every event; the quote can define the mix.
